Dr. Burton Kushner attended the University of Wisconsin followed by Northwestern Medical School. His did a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin, after which he did a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Bascom Palmer under John Flynn, MD. After fellowship, he returned to the University of Wisconsin where he has been on the faculty since 1974. He has been AAPOS Secretary for the Program and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of AAPOS. Dr. Kushner has received numerous awards including the AAO and AAPOS Senior Honor Award, AAO Lifetime Achievement Award, The Heed Award, and the Bressler Prize. Dr. Kushner has given 24 named lectures, including the Costenbader and Scobee Lectures, has published over 200 peer reviewed papers, 41 textbook chapters, and authored 2 textbooks. He had been Director of the Pediatric Eye and Adult Strabismus Clinic at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he is currently Professor Emeritus.
